New Zealand Long Term Skill Shortage List (LTSSL)

The LTSSL is a list containing the name of skilled occupations that are in demand in New Zealand due to its continuous shortage in the country. The updated list is published after every 6 months in which new occupations are added and some of the old are removed.

If the list covers your occupation or expertise then you can apply for work to residence and for Skilled Migrant category (SMC). In SMC, for instance you get bonus points if your work experience or skilled employment is mentioned in the LTSSL.

There are following notes, which you need to keep in your mind while applying application against LTSSL:

  • The qualification listed are New Zealand awarded qualification, which is in compliance of New Zealand Qualification Framework (NZQF). For overseas qualification an equivalence certificate, need to be taken from International Qualification Assessment (IQA) from the New Zealand Qualification Authority testifying the comparable NZQF qualification.
  • If there is a requirement of post–qualification employment experience then it applies to each and every qualification that is listed for the respective occupation.
  • If an applicant applied for the SMC and holds a qualification that is mentioned in LTSSL he can claim bonus points against it and it will recognized under SMC.
